The writing for this piece started before I was even finished with my previous album, North Star. It was meant to be a track there but I wasn't satisfied with it so I dumped it for another time. I knew I had to make a cold finale for this album and I decided to revive this track.
A lot of work into this. It used to be a full 16 minutes but I cut off the last few parts for Leaving after getting some feedback. Even with the cut, this track is still on the longer side with several developing parts. The first 5 and a half minutes involve a sped up sample of Sekonda by Aphex Twin and a slowed down sample of Section IIIB from Music For 18 Musicians. Then these fade away into the main part of the song. I've had that piano melody on my mind for years and I always wanted to use it. I'm not sure if I got it from somewhere but I do know that it sets quite the mood. The samples mentioned before come back in and create a lot of tension. The haunting atmosphere is a very unique aspect of this song. You can't find something as poignant as this out there. It screams out the name of the title and fills the listener with dread. This is needed for the next track to have it's effect.
